Get more out of your WMS: WMS optimisation for BizBloqs
Do you already use BizBloqs, but feel there is more in it? Many warehouses use their WMS for part of what is possible. Here you read what we look at with you, who this is meant for and what it delivers.
Who it is for
Only for existing BizBloqs users
WMS optimisation is one of our four warehouse services, and it is meant for warehouses that already work with BizBloqs. We know that system, which is why we can improve in it in a targeted way. We do not optimise other WMS products.
Do you work with another system or still with lists and spreadsheets? Then the warehouse scan is a good start, or the implementation of a WMS if you want to switch. We agree the scope and the price of each service in advance.
Sound familiar?
When is there more in your WMS?
The system runs, but it can be better if you recognise one of these signs:
Employees work around the system
What the system should do is kept on paper or in a spreadsheet.
The stock is not always right
What the system says and what is on the shelves drift apart.
The warehouse has changed, the system has not
The layout, the range or the way of working has changed, but the settings are as they were at the start.
New colleagues do not get it
Training takes a lot of time because many exceptions and agreements of their own have grown up.
You miss figures
You do not know well how your warehouse performs, or the figures come from loose lists.
Parts
What we look at with you
We look at four parts of how you use BizBloqs:
Locations and data
Do the locations still match the layout, and is the item data complete? Gaps in the data cause errors on the floor.
Ways of working and scan steps
Do employees follow the same steps, and does the order of the scan steps fit how the work runs? The gain in walking is often there.
Rights per role
Can everyone do exactly what they should be able to do? Too many rights cause errors, too few cause delays.
Measuring and reporting
Which figures do you follow, and do you use them to steer? More on this below.
Measuring
Measure what matters
A system only pays off when you see what it delivers. A figure with which you follow the performance of the warehouse is called a KPI. Good choices are simple and belong to a question your team recognises: how many orders contain an error, how long does an order lie before it is dispatched?
You best put those figures together on one overview, a dashboard. What goes on it, we choose together. Also look at which definitions BizBloqs uses, so that you speak the same language. More about working with figures in the warehouse is at warehouse efficiency from BizBloqs.
Method
How we work
We start with a conversation about what you miss and what you have already tried. Then we look along with you in the settings and on the floor, so that we see what the system does and what your team does with it. We write down where the difference is, order the improvements by effect and effort and carry out the agreed adjustments together.
That keeps it limited to what you have agreed. If you want to add something during the work, we agree that with you first.
Examples
What an optimisation can involve
These are examples of adjustments that fall under an optimisation:
One scan step fewer
A step that adds nothing is removed, so employees move through their work faster.
Locations that are right again
Locations that still belong to an old layout are adjusted or cleared.
Clear roles
Employees see and do what they need, and a supervisor sees what they need.
An overview that is used
A dashboard with a few figures that the team discusses, instead of a report that nobody opens.
Carefully
Changing without disturbing the floor
You do not simply change a system that runs every day. We agree with you when a change is made, test it first with a limited group or in one zone, and record what has changed, so that your team knows what is new.
That keeps the optimisation manageable and means you always know where your way of working deviates from the standard.
Further
What this connects to
Optimising the system goes hand in hand with the way of working around it. So also read about improving warehouse processes. It shows how we approach receiving, collecting orders, packing and dispatch.
A question about the product itself you ask at BizBloqs. On ERP and WMS implementation you read more about our role, and what the standard package for ERP and WMS looks like is at ERP and WMS as a standard package.
